David,
I am not sure if I could be of much help to you, especially since I am still finding out information on my family myself, but I can try. You stated that your second great-grandfather was working on the farm of Fred Munn(s) in Farm Ridge LaSalle County Illinois. My second great-grandmother Cora Munn(s) is Fred's younger sister. She was born in Joliet and she eventually came to Chicago with her parents sometime in the 1890's. She died young also, at the age of 48 in 1930. I found your story while looking up some family info and I found it quite interesting. It is amazing how back then people helped each other out. Fred died in 1918 I am not sure if he was born in Illinois or in Northern Ireland as his older brothers and sister were. He is buried out in farm ridge. Well, it was nice to meet you and I will do my best to help if you if I can.
